I made a game with Phaser. How do I share it and get players?

Phaser games ship as a web page, so host the built files on a static host and test on a phone before you post. Set the scale mode so the game fits any screen, show a loading bar while assets load, and start sound after the first tap. Then list the link on Foundplay.

Build from a template and host the output

The Phaser team publishes starter templates for common bundlers, including Vite. Build with npm run build, then upload the output folder to a static host such as GitHub Pages, Netlify, Vercel or Cloudflare Pages. A tiny game can load Phaser from a script tag, but download the library file and host it with your game, so a changed link elsewhere can't break it.

Make it fit every screen

Use Phaser's scale manager. A common setup is the fit mode with the game centered, on a base size chosen for your design. Think about phones in portrait as well as computers in landscape before you pick that size, because a wide game on a tall screen leaves bars and tiny controls. For pixel art, turn on the pixelArt option so the image stays crisp when scaled.

Preload and show progress

  • Load assets in a boot scene and listen to the loader's progress event to draw a bar.
  • Pack small images into texture atlases, which cuts the number of requests.
  • Compress audio, and consider audio sprites for short effects.
  • Show something useful on the title screen while the rest loads.

Sound and touch

Phaser's sound manager stays locked until the browser gets a tap, click or key press, so put sound behind a start screen. Phaser tracks only a few touch points by default. Add more with the input plugin's addPointer if your controls use several fingers at once, such as a stick and a button.

Check the frame rate on real phones

A desktop browser's device mode doesn't show touch delay or how a phone copes with memory. Play on a mid-range Android phone and an iPhone. Phaser's game loop reports a frame rate (game.loop.actualFps), so print it on screen while you test, and cut particles, tint effects and large sprites if it falls.

Saves and updates

Use localStorage for saves, and keep the game's address stable, since saves are tied to it. Give built files names that change with each build so players don't keep an old version after a fix.

Where to share a Phaser game

Phaser has a community forum and a Discord server where people show their work, and the usual player-facing places apply too: genre subreddits, itch.io and Foundplay. Read each place's rules on self-promotion first.

How Foundplay can help

Foundplay is a game discovery platform for free browser games. It doesn't host games: every listing sends players to the creator's own site.

The free listing

Listing a game is free. Paste the link where people play it at /submit, check the details and publish. The game goes live right away, and Play sends players to your own site.

Foundplay fills in the details from your page, and Play sends players to your site. Write the one-line description yourself; it is limited to 120 characters, so lead with the hook.

Boost, the paid option

Foundplay sells Boost, so it has a reason to want you to buy it. The free listing works without it.

For a game you have just updated, the plan called Boost shows it on its genre pages and in search results. If you are not sure the cover works, run Starter ($5 for 50 plays in 3 days) first.

The Boost plan costs $10 for 120 plays in 5 days, which works out to 8.3¢ a play. Where it shows: its genre pages and search results.

A play is a counted click on Play from a sponsored spot, the same way public play counts work: once per game per network a day. Every sponsored spot is labelled Sponsored, and the share of plays not delivered by the end of the plan's days is refunded automatically. Foundplay can't see what players do after the click. Fan games and copies of commercial games can't be boosted. A game has to be listed before it can be boosted. List it first, or start a Boost and add your play link there, and Foundplay lists the game for free as part of the same flow.

For scale, Foundplay's own visit counter shows an average of 4,500+ visitors a day over the last three full days, and 600+ games are listed. It updates every few minutes.

Questions

Do I need a bundler to deploy a Phaser game?
No. A script tag and a few files work for a small game. Build tools help once the project grows, and Phaser's templates set them up.
Why is my Phaser game blurry on phones?
The canvas draws at its set size and the browser scales it. For pixel art, turn on pixelArt and use whole-number scaling. For smooth art, design at a larger base size.
Why does my Phaser game play no sound at first?
Browsers block audio until the player taps or clicks. Phaser waits for that, so start music from a button on the first screen.
Can I make a multiplayer game with Phaser?
Phaser draws and handles input, but has no networking built in. Pair it with a WebSocket server or a library such as Colyseus. The multiplayer guide covers filling rooms.
